Matteo Berrettini folds Collignon: Italy-Belgium 1-0 in Davis Cup

Italy is flying ahead against Belgium in the Davis Cup semifinals. In the first singles match, in fact, Matteo Berrettini, world number 56, beat Raphael Collignon, number 86 in the ATP ranking, in two sets with a final score of 6-3 6-4 after almost an hour and a half of play.
A rocket start of the Blue who hits the break already in the second game at the third useful opportunity with a back attack. Matteo confirms the lead (3-0) with the service with which he concedes very little to his rival: it is 6-3 for the Roman, after 35 minutes.
Berrettini immediately runs ahead in the second set as well (2-0) but this time comes the reaction of the Belgian who recovers the disadvantage (2-2). In the fateful seventh game, however, l’Azzurro gets another break with a splendid stop volley before filing the case on the 6-4 final.
Berrettini confirmed himself as a factor for Italy in the Davis Cup, achieving his 11th success out of thirteen matches played in the competition: the Roman’s last defeat dates back to the 2019 Finals against US Taylor Fritz.
