Paul Pogba returns to the field and gets emotional, but it’s a disastrous night for Monaco

Paul Pogba is back on the field: more than two years after his last game in a Juventus shirt, the French midfielder returned to the pitch during the Ligue 1 match between Rennes and Monaco. The’former transalpine national team member entered the field at’85’ in place of teammate Coulibaly: for him it is the end of a nightmare after in two years spent between injuries and long disqualification.
Monaco, however, did anything but celebrate: on the pitch the Principality team was overwhelmed by Rennes 4-1: Boudlal, Camara, Embolo and Blas swept away Pocognoli’s eleven.
Pogba came on at the 85’85’, on the now compromised 4-0 result, and shortly afterwards the Monegasques scored the flagship goal with Biereth. At the triple whistle Pogba greeted the fans with tears in his eyes.
The third consecutive defeat sinks Monaco to eighth place in the standings, -8 from the Champions zone. It will be seen in the coming weeks whether Pogba’s return can reverse the inertia of an increasingly uphill season.
