The Davis Cup to Italy for the third year in a row represents not only a feat that will long remain in the hearts of domestic tennis fans and others, but rewrites the history of the discipline. In fact, the fact of conquering the tournament for the third year in a row (2025 follows the feats of 2023 and 2024) represents a circumstance that has not occurred in decades.

To be precise, it had not been since 1972 that a team won three consecutive editions of the Davis Cup. That was at the time the United States, which to be precise won five in a row starting in 1968. Moreover, 1972 was the very first edition in which the tournament was held without a Challenge Round, an aspect that makes Italy&#8217s success in 2025 even more historic.

“I realized my dream. In fact, this was the dream of all of us – commented Flavio Cobolli, a protagonist in the decisive victory that earned Italy a 2-0 win over Spain.

We are a very united team indeed, we tried to team up like the 2006 World Cup champions. I am really proud of all the guys who made their contribution to make Italy’world champion”.

A few minutes after the Davis Cup triumph, moreover, Jannik Sinner’s message came to Italy. “Congratulations on this incredible victory”, the South Tyrolean champion wrote in a post on the Instagram Stories of his official profile. The caption is accompanied by emoji of a tricolor flag, a blue heart and a trophy clearly representing the Davis Cup. It is accompanied by an’image with the words “C4World Champions 1976 – 2023 – 2024 – 2025” and showing Italy&#8217s players in this edition of the event, plus captain Filippo Volandri in the center.
