The Italian Basketball Federation announced on Monday that it had penalized, by an additional point to be added to the previous -4, the Trapani Shark club, which thus moves up in the standings from fourth place shared with Tortona to a solitary fifth place, on 11 points. In a note, the Federbasket explained the reasons behind the sports sanction.

“The FIP – reads the official statement – received, during the month of October, a report from the Independent Commission for the verification of the economic and financial balance of professional soccer and basketball sports clubs (which replaced the ComTeC from this sports season), regarding the position of the Trapani Shark” company.

“It has been found – continues the Federation – that the Trapani Shark company ‘has failed to make the payment of the IV installment due by the month of August 2025 relating to the Contradictory Minutes entered into with the Internal Revenue Service, Provincial Directorate of Trapani, on May 29, 2025 for a total amount of approximately Euro 120.969.37’, for which the Licensing Manual provides for the edictal sanction of one point penalty in the standings in the current sports year, which the Federal Council has decided”.

“The Commission also reported that the Club produced a statement where it affirmed that it was in compliance with the deadlines for the payment of the installments stipulated in the ‘contradictory minutes’ signed with the Internal Revenue Service. With respect to this statement, records were forwarded to the Federal Prosecutor&#8217s Office for its jurisdiction. The Prosecutor’s Office has also opened another file regarding the registration of the same Trapani Shark” concludes the note.
