This is how Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone spoke in a press conference on the eve of the home match with Inter tomorrow night valid for the fifth day of the “league” phase of the Champions League.

“Inter is a team that plays very well, has personality and is very clear on how to attack. It has an incredible roster. I saw the match with Milan, it was proactive throughout the match. It failed to materialize what it created, but it could easily have won. Milan defended compactly, Inter would have deserved it. In the Champions League, the numbers speak for themselves. We have to take the game to where we know we can hurt them”.

“Coaching Inter? It won&#8217t depend on me, but I can imagine a period at Inter in my coaching journey. Clearly, after losing in a derby they want to come back and win immediately in the Champions League. It is one of the candidate teams to win the championship in Italy and in the Champions to be strong as they are showing”.

Diego Simeone landed in Italy in 1990 to play two seasons with Pisa, one in A and one in B, then played for Sevilla and Atletico and then came to Inter, where he stayed from 1997 to 1999 before moving to Lazio, with whom he played four years before returning to Atletico Madrid. As a former he was also the author of the goal that put the biancocelesti ahead against the Nerazzurri in the May 5, 2002 challenge that ended 4-2 for Lazio and delivered the Scudetto to Juventus at the expense of Inter. He has coached the Colchoneros for as many as 15 seasons, with whom he has won two championships, a Spanish King’s Cup and Super Cup, and two Europa Leagues and two European Super Cups.
