A.C. Milan on X paid tribute to Lorenzo Buffon, who died today in Latisana at the age of 95 and a historic goalkeeper for the Rossoneri in the 1950s. Here is the text of the message.

“His ‘Pincer’ hands made Milan great in so many victories in the 1950s. Lorenzo the Magnificent, a good man with a great Rossoneri heart, has left us. It is with great emotion that we say goodbye to Lorenzo Buffon and honor his memory.”

Lorenzo Buffon played for AC Milan from 1949 to 1959, with the Rossoneri he won five league titles and two Latin Cups, a competition reserved for teams from France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. After a one-season interlude at Genoa, he played three years at Inter.

With the Nerazzurri he won the first Scudetto of Angelo Moratti’s management with Helenio Herrera on the bench. His last season in Serie A was with Fiorentina in 1963-1964. In the top league he totaled 420 appearances.

With the Italian national team he played 15 games, of which the last two were at the 1962 World Cup in Chile, but he did not play the infamous match against the South American hosts lost by the Azzurri 2-0 mainly because of the scandalous refereeing by Britain’s Aston.
