Olimpia, Ettore Messina resignation: now no alibi for all players

A final year to close, as best he could, an adventure that was nonetheless stimulating and, trophies in hand, also with several satisfactions (three Scudetti, two editions of the Coppa Italia, three victories in the Italian Super Cup and even a Euroleague Final Four in 2021).

In contrast, Ettore Messina stepped aside this season, tired of, in his own words, being “a divisive factor”. No “last dance”, better to leave to others, specifically to his natural heir Peppe Poeta, the mission of shaking up a team that always seems to fall back into the same problems, and we are not just talking about injuries (however many over the past few seasons).

At this point, with Ettore Messina no longer head coach, all players will be called upon to step up and take responsibility. The alibis are over. The little game, much in vogue on social media, of always blaming Ettore Messina now has no more reason to’be.

It won&#8217t be easy for Peppe Poeta, who, as per his contract, would have preferred an apprenticeship year before becoming Olimpia&#8217s coach. Instead, he will have to come up with something right away to bring the right energy to a locker room that is now obliged to show it has attributes.
