Inter, Chivu worried: Lautaro Martinez hasn’t just lost his smile

A few weeks ago, Chivu advised Lautaro Martinez to smile more. Too dark in the face, especially for someone like him, that is, the soul of Inter. That’invitation has been lost in thin air, indeed the Argentine seems more and more immersed in his thoughts.

This was also noticed in the match, lost at the photo finish, at the Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid. The Nerazzurri captain, in addition to failing to make a difference in front of the opponent’s goal, was often the protagonist of discussions with opponents and referees, as if to certify a moment that was anything but serene.

When he was called back to the bench by his coach Chivu (72′, in his place Esposito), the Nerazzurri striker appeared pulled in the face and, certainly, not happy to leave the field. Certainly, this is an understandable reaction, but the feeling remains that Lautaro Martinez is definitely not happy with what is happening.

And yet, data in hand, he is doing his: eight goals this season, including four in the Champions League, and also several important performances. However, Chivu must have realized long ago that Lautaro Martinez has not only lost his smile. Perhaps the heavy defeats of last season still hurt, to such an extent that the Argentine struggles to let go and play the way he knows how. Of course, for Inter’s sake, it is clear that an old-fashioned Lautaro Martinez is needed to aim for ambitious results.
