Lazio market, Maurizio Sarri risks losing his protégé
Lazio’s situation in the market sphere is constantly evolving: the club, waiting to be able to restart incoming negotiations after the summer freeze, is also reasoning about the various players expiring in June 2026, among whom there is a player to whom Maurizio Sarri has never hidden attestations of esteem, even important ones: it is midfielder Toma Basic. The Biancoceleste club, for which Basic has been playing since 2021 (excluding a parenthesis from January to June 2024 on loan at Salernitana) has not yet reached an agreement with the Croatian player’s attorney, who therefore from next January 1 will be able to pre-agree with a new club for a zero-parameter transfer from the beginning of July.
In the window, as reported by Corriere dello Sport, there’s Sevilla Betis, looking for a player to employ in the midfield next season capable of combining technical and physical qualities. It is difficult for the Andalusian club to move to have him as early as January, although the possibility of fighting for a Champions League spot and going as far as possible in the Europa League could lead the green-and-white leadership to reach an agreement for an immediate transfer, paying the biancocelesti a financial consideration. In recent weeks, however, Maurizio Sarri himself had raised the wall in this regard.
“We will see what happens on the arrivals front but on that of players not to be sold I have one name above all, that of Basic – had said the biancoceleste coach on the sidelines of the home draw with Atalanta in October -. He gives everything in every game, both with his head and with his physique and technique. Already in his first year with me he played a lot, now he also has more personality”. However, there is not only Basic among the expiring players: on June 30, 2026, the contracts of Adam Marusic, Matias Vecino (who, however, can take advantage of an option for an additional year), Elseid Hysaj, Pedro and Dimitrije Kamenovic will also expire. In addition, on the same date the future of Boulaye Dia will be decided, whose redemption obligation under the agreement with Salernitana will be exercised if particular contractual conditions are met.
