Revolution in Switzerland, via Sascha Stauch

Changes the coach of the Swiss Under-21 national team, which currently occupies third place in the qualifying group for the 2027 European Championships, with two wins in five matches. After a thorough analysis of the sporting situation, the SFA has decided to end its partnership with Under-21 coach Sascha Stauch after just under two and a half years in charge. “The National Under-21 team is a central pillar for the future of Swiss soccer. In order to continue to develop the team and sustainably achieve its sporting goals, new impulses are needed. We are convinced that a new approach can decisively strengthen the development of the team,” explained Pierluigi Tami, the director of national teams.
To keep alive their chances of qualifying for the European Championships, the Red Swiss team must win their group or at least finish in second place to enter the playoffs. However, in recent months, performances and results have not shown the desired continuity. “It was not an easy decision. We have great respect for the work done by Sascha Stauch and sincerely thank him for his commitment. However, we are convinced that this is the right time to embark on a new sporting direction,” Tami added. The new coach will be appointed by January 2026 at the latest.
Bitter day on Thursday for the Swiss and ski fans more generally. Concerns were unfortunately well-founded after the injury suffered by Lara Gut-Behrami at Copper Mountain (Colorado): the Ticino outfielder suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament, as well as a meniscal injury in her left knee. She will have to undergo surgery, scheduled for next week, and ended her competitive season prematurely: she will therefore also be forced to forgo the Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina and her career may be over.
