Atalanta revolution: 3 champions say goodbye as early as January

In the coming months, Atalanta could change a lot given several contracts expiring in 2026 and 2027. Of particular concern to the Bergamo club are Gianluca Scamacca, Ederson and Ademola Lookman. The Roman center forward still has 2 years left on his contract with Atalanta, negotiations for renewal are stuck and the club may decide to put him on the market in January to try to scrape together as much as possible. Apparently, a number of English clubs are on Scamacca&#8217s trail, and a return to the Premier League (he has already played at West Ham between 2022 and 2023) is the most likely scenario at the moment.

The club is also considering a return to the Premier League.

L’Atalanta will then have to address the issue of Ederson, also due to expire in 2027. Long in the sights of several Italian big names and others, the Brazilian could leave Bergamo to experience a new adventure after years in the Nerazzurri. Recently Cury, his prosecutor, in an interview with CadenaSER opened to the’hypothesis of the transfer: “Atalanta was asking for a lot of money, between 60 and 75 million euros, but now he is almost expiring his contract, they could even halve the price, between 30 and 40 million. We are talking about a spectacular player with some of the best statistics in Europe for his role. I am friends with Deco and the president of Barcelona, I will always help them with transfers because I have a very special affection for the blaugrana” club.

Scheduled to expire in 2027 is Ademola Lookman, who is back from rather complicated months. In the summer he did everything he could to force his transfer to Inter, he did not participate in the first part of the training camp with La Dea hoping that Atalanta would relent but that was not the case: the Nigerian remained in Bergamo, albeit initially as a home separate. He was not summoned for the first 3 days of the championship, then he was reintegrated into the group but his behavior in the summer greatly irritated Percassi and the contract renewal is very complicated. Easier is the transfer, perhaps abroad: in England the champion has several admirers, as well as in Spain and Turkey. In the last days of August even Bayern Munich had come forward trying to take advantage of the opportunity but today the Bavarians&#8217 interest has cooled considerably.

By June, Atalanta will have to make a decision on the future of four pillars of the Nerazzurri team: Sead Kolasinac, Berat Djimsiti, Marten de Roon and Davide Zappacosta. Someone arrived earlier, someone was added a few years ago, all four, however, have considerable specific weight in the Dea locker room. At the moment the most likely hypothesis is that Atalanta confirms everyone for at least another year, perhaps already acquiring their successors so they have time for the baton handover.

Sead Kolasinac arrived in Bergamo for free in 2023 from Olympique Marseille, Berat Djimsiti, on the other hand, has been defending the Nerazzurri colors since as far back as 2016, although in between there were loans to Avellino and Benevento. Atalanta picked up Marten de Roon in 2015 from Heerenveen, a year later sent him to Middlesbrough to mature and welcomed him back to Bergamo in 2017. Since then he has become an immovable player and has written very important pages with Atalanta. Davide Zappacosta grew up in the Dea youth team, then also played for Chelsea, Roma and Genoa before returning to Bergamo for good in 2021.
