In the very last minutes of the big match between AC Milan and Lazio, an episode occurred that sparked a lot of controversy: Strahinja Pavlović hit the ball with his elbow after a touch from Alessio Romagnoli, the referee initially did not notice the contact but was later called back to VAR.

Furious protests from the Milan bench ensued and the match director ejected Massimiliano Allegri before reviewing the incident on the monitor. After a lengthy consultation, the referee decided not to award the penalty since Pavlović, before hitting the ball, was fouled by Adam Marušić.

The’incident obviously infuriated Lazio: on the pitch the players protested for a long time, then at the triple whistle the club called a press silence for all members of the biancoceleste club.

The first half of the challenge between Milan and Lazio was not particularly exciting: the two formations studied each other for a long time, then Mario Gila tried to set the tone but his deflection found the prompt response of Mike Maignan, who then also repeated himself on Mattia Zaccagni. In the second half, the Rossoneri approached better and took the lead in 51′ thanks to Rafael Leao, who made the most of Fikayo Tomori’s assist. The Diavolo raised their center of gravity but did not create any further problems for Ivan Provedel.
