Roma market, two top players in the Giallorossi’s sights

Gian Piero Gasperini is in urgent need of reinforcements in attack and has made this clear even in recent meetings with Roma management. The Giallorossi club wants to please the seasoned coach by intervening in the market as early as January, and the capital club’s main targets seem to be Joshua Zirkzee and Mathys Tel, both of whom are struggling in the Premier League with Manchester United and Tottenham, respectively. The Red Devils would like to sell the Dutchman outright, Roma would prefer to have him on loan with a buy-back option but there’s room for negotiation and cautious optimism is seeping in.
Joshua Zirkzee won everyone over with the performances he offered with the Bologna jersey between 2022 and 2024, then the move to England did not go as he hoped and now he needs to regain confidence and goals to convince Ronald Koeman to take him to the upcoming World Cup to be held between the United States, Canada and Mexico in June. A few English clubs have also come forward for Zirkzee but the champion is determined to return to Italy: he is convinced that he can revive his career by returning to play in Serie A and Roma is an option he likes very much. There had also been talk of AC Milan but the Rossoneri now have other goals.
Also on Roma’s notebook is Mathys Tel but the matter is more difficult: he left Bayern Munich in February to move to Tottenham on loan, then Spurs redeemed him by shelling out as much as 35 million euros. So far, however, Tel has struggled to convince Thomas Franck to let him play continuously and is looking around for a new opportunity. His name is on the radar of a number of English and Spanish clubs but Tottenham is willing to deprive him only on a temporary basis. The London club believes strongly in his qualities and would like to send him elsewhere so that he can play continuously.
The Santiago Gimenez hypothesis seems definitely doomed: in the summer there had been talk of a possible exchange with Artem Dovbyk but the Giallorossi, after several reflections, decided not to proceed with the negotiation. Massimiliano Allegri would have been quite happy to sign the Ukrainian center forward, then things turned out differently and Milan fell back in extremis on Christopher Nkunku, who so far, however, has not completely convinced the Rossoneri people. In January, the Diavolo could also intervene in the market to sign a new center forward: Niclas Füllkrug, outgoing from West Ham, is very liked, while for June the big dream is Robert Lewandowski.
