Inter market, eyes in Barcelona for new defender

In all likelihood in the summer Inter will have to sign at least one central defender: Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij are expiring contracts and seem to have reached the end of their experience in the Nerazzurri. Beppe Marotta is already at work together with his collaborators and among the various profiles probed there is also that of Eric Garcia, whose contract expires with Barcelona and has been approached by the Nerazzurri club in the past. The defender has had a few talks with the Catalan management to talk about renewal but the white smoke has not yet arrived and the Spanish center-back’s future remains in the balance.

Ernesto VillaFierce Capello against Inter: “Becomes a dead team”

Capello fierce against l'Inter after Madrid defeat
The'former coach at Sky criticized the Nerazzurri for the mistakes that led to the ko with Simeone’s team
"Difficult to keep the mood up after this defeat"

"A dangerous characteristic of Inter is that when they score then they become flat and monotonous"

"She loses the determination she had before"

"When he has to score goals he goes full throttle and then when he scores he sits down, he becomes a dead team"
Capello points the finger at the mistakes that led to Atletico's goal in extremis
"You can’t give away matches like that, with a marking on the corner “roughly”"

"An absurd final gift that at these levels you can’t give"

"When you make so many changes it’s very difficult to hold positions"

"And if you don’t mark those kind of players well, the goal is very likely to be conceded"

Recently Federico Pastorello, the attorney of Stefan De Vrij and Francesco Acerbi, made the point to Tuttomercatoweb: “The club with us has been very clear: they will make a decision at the end of the season, then of course there&#8217s who will be free to negotiate the renewal, who maybe in the meantime will have already signed with someone else. However, I don&#8217t see any decisions already made on the horizon. Inter will have its work cut out for it, it has 5-6 players expiring and they are players who have made the recent history of the club. Someone will be saying goodbye, someone else will renew. But we are quite serene, we know that the club will resume these talks in May-June. We do our job, which is to bring as many options to the players as possible, and I will do that this time as well. That said, the boys are very attached to Inter. De Vrij is in his eighth season at Inter and Acerbi has also written very important pages of recent Nerazzurri history. They get along very well and I do not exclude anything, but we will talk about it in due time”.

In addition to a new central defender, Inter is also looking for Yann Sommer&#8217s heir. The almost 37-year-old Swiss goalkeeper has an expiring contract and, almost certainly, will not stay at the Nerazzurri next season. The Nerazzurri club has Josep Martinez on its roster who, at the moment, does not seem to give the right guarantees to become the heir to the current Swiss number one. It would be looking for a different profile, already ready for a role that is certainly not easy. Among the many papabili there would be, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the name of Guglielmo Vicario. The Tottenham goalkeeper is not going through a great moment at Spurs and would be considering a return to Serie A.

Inter Milan would be monitoring the situation, so as to understand whether or not there are conditions to try to convince Tottenham to sell Vicario (he is under contract with the English club until June 2028). For personality and international experience, the 29-year-old former goalkeeper of Cagliari and Empoli, among others, could be the right profile for Inter, although there would be many other names in play.
