Sofia Goggia, good feelings not enough: the'Azzurra admits a criticality

Although finishing eighth as the best of the Italians in the Mont-Tremblant giant slalom (won by Alice Robinson ahead of Zrinka Ljutic and Valerie Grenier), Sofia Goggia admitted that she still does not feel one hundred percent in a season that, however, has yet to kick off the speed races, in which the Italian champion has excelled in recent years. On the sidelines of Saturday’s double run, which ended with a 1″98 gap from the winning New Zealander, Goggia spoke about her feelings, trying to dwell on the positive aspects while not hiding some critical aspects that go beyond the final results in the race.

“In the first run I skied a little too light – said the Bergamasque -, the course was arrhythmic and had a lot of bumps, it was enough to make a turn with the wrong timing to risk making a big mistake. The second run, on the other hand, had a smoother track: I didn&#8217t get off to a great start, but in the flat I felt good. The pace of the track was a bit’slow, almost putting me to sleep. In the final part I struggled to find the dynamism that maybe I had in the middle part. However it is a good placing, let&#8217s take one step at a time: definitely my trend is positive”.

“Here in Tremblant I feel good – added Sofia Goggia again -, when the slope is slow I struggle to find the square, however I know very well that the value I express in training is always at the level of the top, regardless of the girls I compare myself with. I think it&#8221s more a mental issue, I need to get unstuck and feel like I do in training: in these races, unfortunately, my level” has not been seen yet. On Sunday, Dec. 7, the giant-bis is scheduled, also in Mont-Tremblant, after which the white circus will move to St. Moritz, Switzerland, where next weekend there will be, at the women’s level, two downhill races and a Super-G.

Sofia Goggia was the big star of Fisi’s Media Day.
The'former Olympic champion spoke ahead of Milan-Cortina.
"The World Cup I have been playing it steadily since 2015-2016, so exactly ten seasons".
"o I’m fine, I worked well this summer, however I had a very good season last year, solid and also with the little preparation that managed to do because of the foot.”
"In the spring I exploited so much the winter conditions present in our mountains, the summer still started from a good physical base and the preparation on skis even in the South American block went well.”
"In my opinion we should not think about the seasons with the rainbow events, with a different conception than the others".
"You have to, in my opinion, get off to a good start, test yourself in the World Cup, be able to understand what level you’re at, calibrate your shot where there are things to fine-tune".
"However, the secret that Federica taught us last year is to ski every weekend strong; therefore, my goal is to be 100% on snow every day".
"I’m focused on what I have to do, without high expectations, but step by step.”
Federica Brignone meanwhile is continuing her rehabilitation.
The dream is to succeed for the Olympics.
It will be hard but dreaming costs nothing.

The World Cup so far has not given any podiums to Italian athletes: Goggia hopes to break the negative series on the Swiss snows.
