Inter market, Beppe Marotta’s big dream gets terribly complicated

For weeks Beppe Marotta and his staff have been looking for a new defender to sign in the summer to shore up the team at Cristian Chivu’s disposal. At the end of the season, Inter could say goodbye to Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij, which is why the need for a new top-notch central defender is a priority for the Nerazzurri club. The club is evaluating various profiles, from players with great potential to already established champions, but it certainly will not invest a lot since from the probable goodbyes of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij it will not earn a euro.

In the past few days there has been much talk about Nico Schlotterbeck’s possible landing in Milan: the German star has a contract expiring in 2027 with Borussia Dortmund and has already hinted that he does not want to continue his experience with the yellow and black jersey. The experienced defender has already ordered his entourage to find an alternative solution for next season, and Inter Milan has been one of the first clubs to raise its antennae. However, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also on the German champion’s trail: Beppe Marotta’s dream is likely to fade soon. Watch out for the Premier League as well, although the two Spanish clubs seem to be ahead of the rest of the competition.

Barcelona at the end of the season will say goodbye to Andreas Christensen, whose contract is expiring, and needs a top-level defender. Hansi Flick knows Nico Schlotterbeck very well (the two worked together in the German senior national team) and could move first hand to convince the Borussia Dortmund player to wear the Blaugrana jersey. Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid will say goodbye to David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger, both of whom are at the end of their experience at the Blancos, and the club is already moving to identify successors: Nico Schlotterbeck is Florentino Perez’s priority.

In the meantime, Inter is also moving on the renewal front, and among the first who could extend his contract is Carlos Augusto, who is doing very well under Cristian Chivu’s orders. The agreement seems really close so that the association between Inter and Carlos Augusto will go beyond the current expiration date of June 30, 2028, or in 2 1/2 seasons.
