The issue of attack remains central at AC Milan less than a month before the start of the winter market. The Rossoneri are pondering how to reinforce the offensive department available to Massimiliano Allegri, who has long been calling for a true 9 for January. But to buy you must first sell, and if until a few hours ago Santiago Gimenez was the biggest suspect to leave to make way for a new striker, now the clouds are gathering over Christopher Nkunku, another player who has made a poor start to his adventure in the Rossoneri. The’French striker, who arrived from Chelsea for about 40 million euros, is struggling to establish himself in Italy.

The’former Chelsea forward, an atypical first forward, is currently failing to fit Allegri’s schemes, and has played a total of 11 games so far, scoring a goal in the Coppa Italia against Lecce. In the league he has played as a starter on just three occasions without ever making an impact; he was expected to be used from 1′ in the cup against Lazio but Allegri decided otherwise. His deployment on the field in the second half was once again unconvincing, and it is giving pause to many in the upper echelons of the Milan household. According to rumors, the Milanese club could decide to sell him in January if offers come in at the right price: in the Premier League and Ligue 1 there is no shortage of clubs interested in the player, who could also move on loan with the right of redemption.

The Rossoneri are looking for a more traditional first forward, and among the names on the list is that of Niclas Fullkrug, currently under contract with West Ham. The German national is struggling with the Hammers. Changing teams and leagues could unlock him and bring him back to top levels (he has always done well with Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund). Alternatively, watch out for the name of Jean-Philippe Mateta, a Crystal Palace striker whose contract expires in 2027. Negotiations to renew his deal are currently blocked and the agents of the Congolese-born French player are looking around for a solution.

The Frenchman has already netted seven goals in 14 games this season, contributing to the London team’s sixth-place finish in the Premier League standings.
