A crisis is brewing in Madrid after Real Madrid’s home loss to Celta Vigo. Xabi Alonso, who arrived with great fanfare in the summer in place of Carlo Ancelotti, is reportedly already at risk after suffering his second league knockout, which caused the Blancos to slip to -4 from top-ranked rivals Barcelona.

According to Marca, the Iberian coach was reportedly given an ultimatum: he will play it all on Wednesday in the Champions League match against Guardiola’s Manchester City. Real executives reportedly discussed late into the night the situation of the team, which offered a poor performance and seemed uncohesive and very nervous internally (as many as 3 were sent off in Sunday’s match).

The names of replacements are already circulating, including that of Zinedine Zidane, who, however, seems destined for the French national team. Also on the shortlist are Jurgen Klopp, currently Red Bull manager, and former Solari and Arbeloa.

According to Marca, Xabi Alonso“s project has imploded” after Vinicius”s outburst a few weeks ago, but among the disgruntled is also the Brazilian talent Endrick, so far ignored by Alonso. The German coach has meanwhile pulled straight: “We are all united, defeats hurt, but we have to look ahead. Wednesday comes the Champions League and we have to show a’different face”.
