After no less than seven technical races between slalom and giant slalom, which have already sent Mikaela Shiffrin into a breakaway in the overall standings, the fast races of the Women&#8217s World Cup finally begin: from Wednesday, December 10 to Sunday, December 14, there will be, in the order, two time trials, two downhill runs and a super-G on the Corviglia slope in St. Moritz. Sofia Goggia, after collecting one outing, a 17th, an eighth and an 11th place in the four giant slaloms held so far, is now ready to try her hand at the two races most congenial to her. With her, eight other Azzurri will defend the colors of Italy in the two downhill races on Friday and Saturday and another nine in the super-G on Sunday.

Sofia Goggia was the big star of Fisi’s Media Day.

The'former Olympic champion spoke ahead of Milan-Cortina.

"The World Cup I’ve been competing steadily since 2015-2016, so exactly ten seasons".
"o I’m fine, I worked well this summer, however I had a very good season last year, solid and also with the little preparation that managed to do because of the foot.”
"In the spring I exploited so much the winter conditions present in our mountains, the summer still started from a good physical base and the preparation on skis even in the South American block went well.”
"In my opinion we should not think about the seasons with the rainbow events, with a different conception than the others".
"You have to, in my opinion, get off to a good start, test yourself in the World Cup, be able to figure out what level you are at, calibrate your shot where there are things to fine-tune".
"But the secret that Federica taught us last year is to ski every weekend strong; so, my goal is to be 100 percent on snow every day".
"I’m focused on what I have to do, without big expectations, but step by step.”
Federica Brignone meanwhile is continuing her rehabilitation.
The dream is to succeed for the Olympics.
It will be hard but dreaming costs nothing.

FISI has summoned a total of eleven athletes: Sara Allemand, Vicky Bernardi, Elena Curtoni, possible newcomer Carlotta De Leonardis, Nadia Delago, Nicol Delago, Sofia Goggia, Roberta Melesi, Laura Pirovano, Sara Thaler and Asja Zenere. Nine will be able to compete in the downhill, same thing in the super-G, but here Allemand has the fixed place she earned in the last European Cup, so in the last of the three races the Azzurri will be 10. And Goggia is ready to start the chase after Shiffrin in the overall World Cup standings, although objectively catching up 388 points is almost impossible.

“It was a run along the lines of Saturday’s – said Goggia after Sunday’s second Mont-Tremblant giant slalom in which she was 11th after placing eighth on Saturday. “In the first run I combined a lot, in the second run the pace was more pressing and I adapted better. The balance of this trip is without infamy and without praise, there is something positive, now we go back to Europe where my races come. When the slope is slow I struggle to find the square, however, I know very well that the value I express in training is always at the level of the top, regardless of the girls I compare myself with, I think it is more a mental issue. I need to get unstuck and feel like I do in training, in these competitions unfortunately my level”.

Alex Vinatzer, on the other hand, took an extraordinary second place in the Beaver Creek giant slalom behind the dominator of the Circo Bianco, Switzerland&#8217s Marco Odermatt, his first podium in the specialty, and now he will have two chances to repeat the feat on the very difficult Face de Bellevarde in Val d’Isère. In Saturday’s giant slalom Giovanni Borsotti, Luca De Aliprandini, Filippo Della Vite, Tobias Kastlunger and Simon Talacci will compete with him, in Sunday’s slalom Corrado Barbera, Matteo Canins, Kastlunger, Tommaso Saccardi and Tommaso Sala.
