Filico Chiesa&#8217s return to Italy has never been more likely: the former Juventus striker, after a forgettable first season at Liverpool, has remained on the sidelines in this one as well despite how much good he showed in the very few minutes he was given by coach Arne Slot. The Reds’ current crisis certainly did not favor the blue player, who had decided in the summer to stay in England to play his cards. But after just 384 minutes played in 15 games in all competitions, and especially after Liverpool’s latest market choices, his farewell in January seems to be certain.

The breakup between Arne Slot and Salah had raised hopes for the Italian player, who is also on the hunt for more space to showcase himself in view of the national team, but the latest market rumors coming out of Liverpool seem to definitely bar his way. In fact, the English club would have decided to return to spend on the market to replace the departing Egyptian striker: the Reds would have already found the’agreement with Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. The Ghanaian has a £65 million termination clause that Liverpool plans to exploit as soon as possible to get to him. Semenyo has stunned with Bournemouth this early in the season and would be ready for the big leap.

Church, who was initially not even included in the Champions list (he entered only after Leoni’s injury), thus has no choice but to return to Italy, where there is no shortage of clubs interested in him. Roma in particular is ready to get serious about the player, while Inter and Napoli had been interested in the summer. Gattuso can&#8217t wait to have him back on the national team: he is betting heavily on him ahead of next March&#8217s World Cup playoffs, and having him back at his best and at match pace before the match against Northern Ireland would be ideal for the Italian national team coach.

Federico Chiesa played a total of 29 games at Liverpool, scoring on four occasions. In his career, the Azzurro has also played and scored with Fiorentina and Juventus, where he won two Italian Cups and a Scudetto. Currently his market value is estimated at around 18 million euros, and he has a contract until 2028. Slot did not call him up against Inter because of a physical problem, but he made it clear that he is certainly not among the first choices: “We have many alternatives in his position. Certainly a few times this season Federico has made a good impact by coming in from the bench”, he dismissed the issue in one of the last press conferences this way.
