Lorenzo Musetti looks to 2026: message to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Lorenzo Musetti was honored as Athlete of the Year at the Gazzetta Sports Awards, staged at the Auditorium Fiera Milano. The Carrara native capped a fantastic season with entry into the top 10 of the ATP rankings, his first final in a Masters 1000, and his first appearance in the ATP Finals. “Top 10 season? Well I have always been very ambitious with myself, so really 10 is almost perfection – he said on the sidelines of the ceremony -. Definitely it was a year of big changes, big steps forward: the debut in the top 10, the best ranking and of course the Finals goal achieved, which was what then made me make this leap forward. Definitely it&#8217s a good year to remember however I have already planted a little bit’ the foundation for the next season so I would say an 8.5/9”.

The world number eight wants to insert himself in the duopoly between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz: “The’goal for sure is that, I know that this year I have had a chance to face both of them: Carlos several times (in the final at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, in the semifinals at the Rome Masters 1000 and Roland Garros and in the round at the ATP Finals in Turin, ed.), Jannik only at the US Open. But definitely playing against them also helped me to understand how far I was from that level and especially the fact of maintaining their level for a certain time. So we are working a lot on that and the goal definitely starts with the Australian Open, which is the first big stop on our circuit”.

Musetti, who arrived exhausted at the end of the season, did not participate in the Davis Cup Finals that saw Italy triumph for the third consecutive year. “Satisfaction absolutely prevails because I think they did something incredible – Lorenzo admitted -, and maybe of the three Davis matches it was the most fascinating one from a certain point of view because not many people believed in this team, only maybe we insiders knew how much we could say, especially at home in Bologna. Winning it on Italian soil in my opinion made a really really good hype, so I was the first fan in front of the TV while waiting for my partner to give birth”.

“Obviously I would love to play the next edition – he added -, also because in recent years I have been featured as a member of the team but not realistically on the court, I have never really blossomed at the tennis level in the Davis Cup, so I would definitely like to play a key role in the next Davis”. Closing remark on Juventus, the team of Carrarino’s heart: “The victory with Pafos in my opinion can give a positive input. Obviously as a fan and as a sportsman I always look at both sides, both positive and negative but I see that there is definitely a desire for revenge. In the Champions League we gained three crucial points and the next games in my opinion are within reach to try to go and build a better ranking”.
