There are not only the Super Cup and the Scudetto race in Inter’s thoughts: in fact, the attention is also turned to the market, given the concern about the physical condition of Denzel Dumfries, struggling with a left ankle problem that makes the date of the Dutchman&#8217s return to the field an unknown. According to reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport, in fact, the club is assessing with great caution the situation of the Nerazzurri outfielder, who after the physical trouble originated from a clash with Zaccagni during Inter-Lazio on Nov. 9, later aggravated with the Dutch national team, turned out to be more serious than expected.

Conservative therapies have not yielded the desired results, and the club has decided to rely on further specialist visits to figure out what to do. A final decision will be made early next week, before departure for the Super Cup in Riyadh.

Inter hopes to avoid surgery, but it is not a possibility to be ruled out. In parallel, the Nerazzurri management is already planning for the future, and Sunday’s challenge at the Ferraris against Genoa represents an important opportunity to take a close look at a couple of targets. The names circled in red, in particular, are those of Morten Frendrup and Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

The Danish midfielder has been followed for some time by Ausilio and his staff, who appreciate him for his ability to give balance to the midfield and his ability to play as much in the center of the field as on the two flanks. The English outfielder, on the other hand, has quickly climbed the hierarchies of Nerazzurri preferences thanks to the steady growth shown in recent months. Both will therefore be under special observation: from 6 p.m., when Genoa and Inter take the field, in the stands of the Ferraris the Nerazzurri market men will carefully scrutinize every detail of the two players’ performances.

Frendrup arrived in Italy in January 2022 and since then has worn only the Genoa jersey. The Dane, now vice-captain, remained in the Rossoblù despite being relegated to Serie B, and then starred in the immediate ascent in the 2022-2023 season and the two subsequent salvations. Norton-Cuffy, on the other hand, is in his second season at Genoa: last year, having arrived from Millwall, he played just 14 games; this year he has already reached the same figure in December.

The game will be played on Sunday.

Sunday’s match, then, will not only be an important test for Cristian Chivu’s team, but also a market showcase. With Dumfries in the balance and the need to plan for the future, Inter is already looking beyond, ready to seize opportunities that can ensure continuity and quality on the side lanes and in the middle of the field.
