Fiorentina market, Vanoli takes big risks: there's a favorite for the bench

Paolo Vanoli, when he took the responsibility of leading Fiorentina in place of Stefano Pioli, had been clear: “I am not afraid”. Unfortunately, despite a great determination, his contribution to the purple cause has been minimal and, certainly, not enough to give that shock that the whole environment expected. The home defeat against Hellas Verona was yet another very hard blow against Fiorentina, which is increasingly last in the standings: six points, zero victories and the salvation zone a good eight points away. An unfortunate situation that is greatly worrying the fans of the Viola, who are increasingly saddened by a crazy situation.

The last few weeks, moreover, have seen the lily team not even picking up more draws. That of the Franchi against the’Hellas Verona is the th consecutive defeat in the league, in a game that smelled very much like a genuine direct clash for salvation. At this point, with the team in indefinite retirement, strong stances are expected from the club. It seems clear that Paolo Vanoli is not the right person to try to shake up a group that seems to have lost all its certainties. Even the senators, people like David de Gea and Moise Kean are off, which makes the ascent even more complicated.

There is talk, persistently, of the possibility of a new change on the bench. At the moment, the most popular name would be that of Davide Ballardini. The 61-year-old coach is famous for his “impossible” saves. He could be the right man to seek the ’feat and save a Fiorentina team that, at the moment, is completely flat, in every respect. Throughout his career, Davide Ballardini has managed to save teams that seemed doomed (from Cagliari to Genoa, just to name two examples). A coach who specializes in comebacks, exactly what Fiorentina would need.

Davide Ballardini would not be the’only option. There are those who are pushing for a return of Stefano Pioli. After all, he is still under contract with the lily club and, whoever replaced him, certainly did not do a better job, numbers in hand. Stefano Pioli, moreover, is a top technician, of those who have seen it all in their careers.

Beware of the possible return of Beppe Iachini, already seen on the lily bench and, like Davide Ballardini, known for his comebacks entering the season on the run. There would also be an internal solution, namely putting current Primavera coach Daniele Galloppa on the first team bench.
