Inter market, the choice is made: assault on Guglielmo Vicario

Between Inter’s market priorities there’s the purchase of a new goalkeeper: Yann Sommer is expiring his contract and in a very few days he will blow out 37 candles and Josep Martínez alone does not give enough guarantees to the Nerazzurri club. Cristian Chivu absolutely needs a top-level extreme defender to armor the Biscione’s goal for the next few years: the Nerazzurri management has been evaluating several names and in recent weeks there has also been talk of Mike Maignan, whose contract is expiring with AC Milan. However, the transfer of the Frenchman to the Nerazzurri is very complicated and Inter seems to have decided to bet everything on Guglielmo Vicario.
The Tottenham goalkeeper is not having a happy moment in London and has made several mistakes in recent matches that have triggered the anger of English fans. Even in the last match against Nottingham Forest he bears responsibility for the first two goals conceded; on the third, however, he could not do much. Last season Vicario shone but this year something has changed and the former Empoli goalkeeper has lost his smile: a return to Italy could lift his career and the temptation is growing. At the moment, Spurs value Guglielmo Vicario at 30 million euros but, if the player pressures the English management, Spurs could revise their economic demands.
Growing up in the youth ranks of Fontanafredda (a club based near Pordenone), Guglielmo Vicario also played for Udinese before moving permanently to Venezia. His excellent performances with the Laggunari convinced Cagliari to invest 2 million euros on him to buy him in 2019 but the Sardinians decided to turn him over immediately to Perugia to allow him to play with continuity. He moved to Empoli in 2021 for 8.5 million euros and has definitely blossomed with sensational saves and incredible confidence. Vicario’s excellent performances did not go unnoticed by Tottenham, which spent nearly 20 million euros to bring him to England in 2023.
In addition to the incoming market, Beppe Marotta is also reasoning about possible exits. Among the main issues is the one concerning Davide Frattesi: the player claims space but so far he has not been able to convince Cristian Chivu to give it to him. The former Sassuolo player is in the sights of Juventus but the transfer is not easy.
Luciano Spalletti has shown in the national team that he knows how to make the most of Frattesi’s forwards qualities and would like to bring him to Turin. Inter asked the Bianconeri for a swap with Khéphren Thuram but the Bianconeri answered a dry ‘no’: the Frenchman is considered very important by the Old Lady.
