Polina Kudermetova changes nationality

Polina Kudermetova, number 104 in the Wta ranking, has decided to change her nationality from Russian to Uzbek. A choice dictated by her desire to participate in the next Olympics, those of Los Angeles 2028.

In tennis in fact, as it was decided a few weeks after the’invasion of Ukraine, the exclusion of Russia from team competitions, such as the Davis Cup, in Billie Jean King Cup or at the Olympic Games, still applies.

The list of female tennis players who have changed nationalities thus lengthens. Such as Elina Avanesyan, world number 118 and from 2024 Armenian d’adoption, Varvara Gracheva, WTA number 77, who two years ago chose to play for France, Daria Kasatkina, ranking number 37 and adopted from Australia, Anastasia Potapova, number 50 now playing for the colors of Austria, Kamilla Rakhimova, fresh top 100, also switched to Uzbekistan, just in 2025 as Maria Timofeeva.

Polina Kudermetova, 22, born in Moscow, is the younger sister of the better-known Veronika. In her career she reached the final in a major circuit tournament, the WTA 500 in Brisbane last January, losing 4-6 6-3 6-2 to tennis queen Aryna Sabalenka. As her best ranking she has the number 54 touched last April.
