Neymar’s future in Brazilian soccer has been given a new impetus after his team, Santos, was confirmed in the Brazilian Serie A and also recently qualified for the South American Cup.

According to the R7 Esportes newspaper, the striker and the São Paulo club have reached an agreement to extend his contract (due to expire on Dec. 31) until mid-2026, with the goal of ensuring the player is in top form for the upcoming World Cup and can compete in the continental tournament with the team that raised him.

The possibility of Neymar staying at Santos has gained ground especially after the player announced that he will undergo meniscus surgery to be in top shape for the 2026 World Cup.

This decision has been interpreted as an’indication of his intention to remain active in order to secure a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s team, since he has not yet been called up to the greenoro national team. The deal would thus have two main purposes: for the star player to arrive at next year’s World Cup in good physical shape and for him to be able to play in the South American Cup with Santos.
