Milan: no Super Cup, Santiago Gimenez must decide whether to have surgery

Santiago Gimenez’s 2025 is officially over. The Mexican center forward will not be part of the squad that will leave for Riyadh to participate in the Italian Super Cup. Not that there was much chance of seeing him on the field but there was at least hope that he could regain a decent physical condition. Instead, after the consultation in Amsterdam (he is suffering from an ankle problem), here is the Rossoneri striker raised the white flag. He has to make a difficult decision, which is to choose whether to have surgery or not, he is not able to take the field and give the Diavolo a hand.

Milan, total break between Massimiliano Allegri and Santiago Gimenez
Already in the summer the Livorno coach would have wanted the Mexican center forward’s transfer…
According to Allegri, Gimenez does not have the characteristics that the Rossoneri team needs
There had been talk of a trade with Roma’s Artem Dovbyk but then it did not materialize
In recent months the footballer has failed to change Allegri’s mind and is resigned to the transfer
Gimenez would have preferred to stay to prove his worth but Milan has made its decision: it will be goodbye
The'striker is required especially by Sunderland and Boca Juniors
Igli Tare has long been working to identify the'heir of the'former Feyenoord
Like very much Niclas Füllkrug, outgoing from West Ham and looking for a new experience
The mighty German has not settled in England and has already told his entourage to find him another team
The Joshua Zirkzee hypothesis cannot be ruled out, despite the fact that Roma is further ahead in talks with Manchester United than the Rossoneri
Igli Tare is also considering the Mauro Icardi option but it is more likely that the Argentine will leave Turkey in the summer when his contract expires

The situation has now precipitated and there is unlikely to be a happy ending. Santiago Gimenez has not been seen on the field for a very long time. “For several months I have been playing with an ankle injury that has not allowed me to be 100 percent, nor to feel comfortable on the field. With great desire to continue to help the team, I have continued to play but the pain has been growing and it is time for me to stop. Now I have to recover and get ready to return as soon as possible” he had explained a few weeks ago via social media. Since then, he has effectively disappeared from the radar.

Max Allegri has never lost hope of having him back, so much so that, several times, he has reiterated that he is keeping him in consideration. Igli Tare, Rossoneri sporting director, himself stated how Santiago Gimenez “is important for the team”. In short, Milan believed they could count on him at close quarters and, instead, should the Mexican decide to go under the knife, they will have to do without him for quite some time yet. No small problem for an offensive department already in enormous difficulty (it’s no secret that the Diavolo management has been looking, for several weeks, for a striker to buy in January).

Until now, Santiago Gimenez’s experience at AC Milan has been unsuccessful. Having arrived at Milan on Feb. 3 (costing about 30 million euros), he has scored, to date, the pittance of seven goals in total. Very few for a man who, in two and a half seasons spent at PSV, scored a whopping 65.

This ankle problem goes hand in hand with a decidedly complex adaptation to Serie A. Santiago Gimenez has struggled so much to play in the Rossoneri jersey that he has hardly ever been able to show his qualities. Now also the specter of the’operation to complicate everything.
