Soccer in mourning: Ethan McLeod has died. He was 21 years old

Through its official channels, Macclesfield FC announced the tragic death of Ethan McLeod. The footballer was just 21 years old and passed away following a car accident. “With hearts full of sorrow and an overwhelming sense of unreality, Macclesfield FC can confirm the passing of 21-year-old striker Ethan McLeod. Last night, while returning from Bedford Town, Ethan was involved in a road accident on the M1 that was tragically fatal to him” the club wrote.

“The news of Ethan’s death has shocked the entire Club and there are no words that can express the immense grief and deep sense of loss we are feeling. The emotional scars left by his passing will never heal, but one thing is certain: the memory of Ethan will never fade, no matter how much time passes. Ethan was an incredibly talented and respected member of our first team and had his whole life ahead of him. Beyond his soccer qualities, his infectious personality made him well-liked by anyone who came in contact with him”.

“Always giving his all in everything he did, Ethan effortlessly inspired us to be the best version of ourselves, on and off the field. His professionalism and unwavering work ethic set an example for all, and his joie de vivre lit up our faces even on our darkest days. Ethan will live forever in our hearts and minds, and whatever the future holds, his unique smile that charmed us will never be forgotten”.

Growing up in Wolverhampton’s youth ranks, Ethan McLeod also wore the jerseys of Alvechurch, Rushall and Stourbridge before finally moving to Macclesfield last summer. Thousands of fans from around the world have expressed their sympathy to the young footballer’s family through social media.
