Davide Ancelotti has been exonerated in Brazil. The son of Brazilian national team coach Carlo Ancelotti led Botafogo in his first coaching job after years as his father’s deputy: the Rio de Janeiro club finished the season in sixth place, 16 points behind champions Flamengo.

Few satisfactions in the Copa Libertadores as well, where he was eliminated in the round of 16 by Ecuadorians Liga de Quito. After a management meeting, the club decided on a divorce. Ancelotti had taken over on the bench last July, replacing Renato Paiva.

“Botafogo announces that Davide Ancelotti is no longer the first team coach. Athletic trainer Luca Guerra and assistants Luis Tevenet and Andrew Mangan are also leaving. The decision was made after meetings this Wednesday” is the note from the Brazilian club.

“The club thanks Ancelotti for the professionalism and commitment shown during his time leading the team and as a member of the Botafogo family. Botafogo wishes him the best for the future. The new technical staff will be announced soon”.
