NBA, Victor Wembanyama getting closer to two sacred monsters

After the disappointment of the defeat in the NBA Cup, Victor Wembanyama is back to lay down the law in the regular season with his San Antonio Spurs: thanks to a 26-point, 12-rebound and 3-assist performance, among other things in just under 22 minutes of play, the French giant dragged the Texas franchise to its second consecutive success, this time at home to the Atlanta Hawks after beating the Washington Wizards, contributing to the initial breakaway that turned out to go on to win without any particular problems, with a score of 126-98. ‘Wemby’ among other things, put up two stoppages, reaching 100 consecutive games with at least one ‘block’.
Only two players in the history of the National Basketball Association have been able to do better, and they are no small names: Patrick Ewing is the record-holder with 145 consecutive games with at least one stoppage on the score sheet, ahead of the 116 straight games in which the late Dikembe Mutombo managed it. Returning to the Spurs, the success on the Italian night between Friday and Saturday is number 20 of the 2025-2026 season and is worth the provisional third place in the Western Conference, behind the Oklahoma City Thunder (25 won and 3 lost) and the Denver Nuggets (20 won and 6 lost).
The Spurs are the best team in the Western Conference.
Just from Oklahoma City comes the most surprising result of the night: in fact, in the home of the defending champions the Memphis Grizzlies managed to assert themselves, 112-107, led by Anthony Edwards’ double-double of 26 points and 12 assists. To no avail, on the other side, were the 35 points of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. It was the second loss in a week for OKC, which had lost to San Antonio in the NBA Cup semifinals. Speaking of the in-season tournament, the New York Knicks crowned in recent days picked up their first defeat in more than two weeks, slipping against the Philadelphia 76ers: 116-107 the score, with Tyrese Maxey the star performer thanks to 30 points and 9 assists.
In one of the Eastern Conference classics, the Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 129-116.
Derrick White and Jalen Brown added up to a whopping 63 points (33 the former, 30 the latter, rendering in vain the efforts of Ke’el Ware (24 points and 14 rebounds) and teammates. Boston thus remains in fourth place in the East, while Miami floats in the play-in zone.
Closing the review of the NBA night results is the success of the Chicago Bulls over the Cleveland Cavaliers, a 136-125 that confirms the difficulties in this period for the Cavs, who since November 25 have collected eight defeats and only three successes: useless the 35 points, with 8 assists, of Darius Garland, on the other side shine Matas Buzelis and Nikola Vucevic, both authors of 24 points (for the Montenegrin there are also 15 rebounds).
