Racist insults to Adhu Malual: Alessia Orro and Myriam Sylla’s reactions. Club takes a stand

The volleyball world sides with Adhu Malual after the harsh denunciation of the Monviso Pinerolo volleyball opposite player following the racist insults she suffered during the match against Macerata. The girl, who was born in Rome to parents originally from South Sudan, denounced personal attacks on her and her family members with a post published on Instagram that had a number of reactions, including those of colleagues Alessia Orro and Myriam Sylla. The blue setter sent a message to her national teammate: “With you always Barbie. There is nothing more to add”.
.
Sylla also wanted to show her solidarity by posting a heart. Meanwhile, the Monviso Volleyball club has taken a position on the affair: “The Monviso Volleyball club firmly distances itself from what happened last night in the stands during the match against Macerata, where there were demonstrations of dissent by a minority of the public, not in line with the values of sport and the principles that have always guided our club”.
“While recognizing that sports criticism is part of the competitive confrontation, Monviso Volleyball considers unacceptable attitudes that transcend respect for the person and the athlete, especially when these turn into personal disputes or pressure that is harmful to the sporting climate. The club wishes to express full solidarity and support for the athlete in Adhu Malual, who every day demonstrates commitment, professionalism and dedication to the sports project, sharing with the team responsibilities, successes and moments of difficulty that are part of every competitive path”.
“The club strongly reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of values such as respect, fairness and fair play, on and off the field, and calls on all its supporters to maintain behavior consistent with these principles, to protect the image of the club, the athletes and the sport itself”.
“Any behavior contrary to these values, which does not represent the club or the spirit with which we approach sporting activity, will be prosecuted in the appropriate venues”, the club warned.
