The’former Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin opened up about his depression in an interview with Corriere della Sera. The Colombian midfielder experienced a terrible time during the Covid period, when he moved to Brazil, but even before that his life was falling apart. “I started drinking during the last months at Inter. I was feeling bad about my family situation, I was separating from my wife, I was away from my children”.

“When I moved to China my situation got worse. And when I went to Brazil, Covid broke out. At that moment what was still saving me failed: the ball. I was left with nothing, only with myself”, Guarin explained.

“I even thought about suicide and three times I tried to take my own life. God saved me. One day I was home alone and had been drinking, I started calling people close to me but no one answered. Finally I asked my agent and my psychologist” for help.

“They took me to a foundation and I stopped drinking, I was following a program thanks to which I also started training again. After six months from the start of this path I met my children, I had not seen them for four years. They did not forgive me right away, but then they understood. Now I work in the foundation with my psychologist, I want to make my experience available to people”.
