Ange-Yoan Bonny’s 2025 is over a few days ahead of Inter’s match schedule: the Nerazzurri striker, back from the semifinal played in full in the Supercoppa against Bologna (a match that smiled at the Felsinians after penalty kicks), suffered an ankle injury that will force him to miss the last match of the calendar year, the one on Sunday, December 28 at 8:45 p.m. at home of Atalanta. Cristian Chivu will therefore not be able to count on the French striker, on whose recovery time the club would not, however, comment in the statement released on Tuesday.
“Following a traumatic event encountered in training yesterday, Ange-Yoan Bonny underwent instrumental examinations this morning at the Istituto Humanitas di Rozzano’Istituto Humanitas di Rozzano – read the Nerazzurri club’s note -. The examinations showed a slight sprain of the left knee. His condition will be evaluated next week”. The goal is to have Bonny back at the Beneamata coach’s disposal for Sunday, Jan. 4, when at the San Siro Inter will aim to take revenge precisely against that Bologna side that prevented Chivu’s men from qualifying for the Super Cup final.
Bonny’s injury represents a not inconsiderable problem for Chivu, who had found in the young Frenchman a key asset for his attack. In fact, the former Parma striker has carved out a starring role for himself in the Nerazzurri squad, with significant performances that have convinced the management of the worthiness of the summer investment. Beppe Marotta, in a recent interview, had praised precisely the Frenchman: “The feedback we had had at the club’s technical area was positive. Let’s not forget that Chivu had the opportunity to coach him already at Parma for months, he too endorsed what at the beginning was a’hypothesis for the attack”.
Bonny’s absence will force Chivu to revise his tactical plans for the away match in Bergamo. The Nerazzurri coach will have to rely on alternatives such as Pio Esposito, who has already shown he can seize opportunities when called upon. Chivu’s philosophy, which focuses on empowering the entire group, could prove decisive at this time: “No one must feel safe already and everyone must make themselves ready” said the Romanian coach in one of his latest press conferences.
Bonny, 22 years old last October 25, grew up in the youth ranks of Tours and Chateauroux before a move to Parma in the summer of 2021. With the Ducali he won promotion to Serie A at the third attempt, making his debut in the top league on Aug. 17, 2024 in the 1-1 draw against Fiorentina. Since July 5, 2025, he has been a player of Inter Milan, which has invested 23 million euros on him for the transfer.
