Marcell Jacobs, surprise announcement and throwback

Marcell Jacobs will return to training with Paolo Camossi. The announcement comes from FIDAL president Stefano Mei, who is closely following the competitive future of the Tokyo Olympic 100-meter and 4×100 champion, who is also fresh from the last two European gold medals in the 100 won in Munich and Rome. Two seasons later, the technical pair that signed one of the most iconic chapters in the history of Italian athletics, in the unforgettable summer of 2021, is thus recomposed.
“I am proud to be able to announce this return,” Mei explained.
Jacobs is a heritage of the Italian sport: he has found his motivation again and can still give so much on the track, from now to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, passing through the European Championships in Birmingham scheduled for August. Camossi is a prepared and professional technician, his history speaks for itself: together with Marcell he wrote memorable pages and I am convinced that this rapprochement can give us new satisfactions”. The federal president also emphasized the work done away from the spotlight: “In these weeks, feeling with Marcell even during the Christmas vacations, we have built the best conditions to plan a new path. Now this challenge can begin”.
A return also enthusiastically welcomed by Jacobs himself: “I am happy to be working with Paolo Camossi again. Together we have already written a great page of Italian sports and we believe we can write more”. For the 31-year-old Azzurro of the Fiamme Oro it is a new restart, yet another on a path made of ups and downs: “Restarts are part of my life, not only sports. Every path is made up of falls and rises, experiences that should not bring you down but help you be reborn and always do better”.
Before looking ahead, Jacobs felt the need to rediscover his deepest motivations: “I had to rediscover the ones from when I was a boy, the same ones that led me to the double gold in Tokyo. Running and competing is what I love and it is what I know how to do”.
Now the gaze is already on the future: “As President Mei said well, it is a new beginning and there is great confidence. The horizon is Los Angeles 2028. It is back to work to give new excitement and satisfaction to those who have always followed us, in successes and defeats. It is also for them that we made this decision. Wish us good luck”.
