Fantastic Italy! Biathlon’s mixed relay team gives itself a dream success

Italian mixed relay team composed of Dorothea Wierer, Lisa Vittozzi, Lukas Hofer and Tommaso Giacomel took victory in the mixed team relay in Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic. A result that confirms the Azzurri at the top of the sport just over two weeks before the start of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Italy therefore takes another great satisfaction, improving on the second place obtained in the first team relay of the season, in Sweden at the end of November with the same four elements.
Wierer, Vittozzi and Hofer put up the first bricks, Giacomel closed with an extraordinary last fraction.
Italy thus edged ahead by 24″7 France, runner-up with Oceane Michelon, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, Oscar Lombardot and Quentin Fillon Maillet. Rounding out the podium was the home team, the Czech Republic, whose relay team consisted of Jessica Jislova, Tereza Vobornikova, Vitezslav Hornig and Michal Krcmar. 57″1 the gap between the Czechs and the Italians, for a more than satisfactory podium finish for the hosts anyway.
Closing out the top 5 were the United States (Deedra Irwin, Margie Freed, Campbell Wright and Maxime Germain) and Sweden (Johanna Skottheim, Anna-Karin Heijdenberg, Viktor Brandt and Malte Stefansson), distanced by 59″5 and 1’20″9, respectively, from the winning Italy. The one held on Saturday was event number five as far as the mixed events of the 2025-2026 Biathlon World Cup are concerned. Italy, with today’s success, peremptorily relaunches its ambitions for final success.
Today’s result, by the way, is a real message to all opponents ahead of the home Olympic Games for the Azzurri, with the mixed relay team that will be the protagonist on Sunday, February 8, in Anterselva, the venue for all Five Circles biathlon competitions as far as this year’s edition is concerned.
“My teammates did a great job – said Tommaso Giacomel shortly after the finish -. I had a chance to attack and I succeeded but the whole team worked well, including technicians and skimen. It is a good day to be Italian, today was a special day. The audience was outstanding, they gave me so much positive energy”.
