Giovanni Franzoni as a legend on the Streif: watch the video of the amazing descent

Giovanni Franzoni signed Saturday another feat destined to remain in the history of Italian sports: after the dream weekend in Wengen, the Brescian won the downhill in Kitzbühel, taming the legendary Streif. It was an extraordinary success, the first in his downhill career at World Cup level, bringing Italy back to the throne seven years after his last victory.

Not even overall dominator Marco Odermatt was able to stop him.

The Swiss tried to take the win with a top partial in the final, but surrendered by just seven hundredths. Muzaton also climbed the podium, while Florian Schieder came close to third, finishing just a whisker behind Frenchman Allegre.

Franzoni, emotional at the microphones after the race, dedicated the victory to his friend Matteo Franzoso, who passed away in Chile last September, recalling their first experience together on the Streif.
