Conegliano, rematch and record-breaking triumph: Scandicci mocked three times

Legavolley femminile

One month after their defeat in the World Club Championships, Prosecco Doc A.Carraro Imoco Conegliano took revenge with Savino del Bene Scandicci, imposing themselves 3-0 in the Italian Cup final. The panthers needed advantages three times but proved superior in the decisive moments, going on to take the’eighth rosette in their history, the seventh consecutive. Curiously, this is the first title of the season, since in the October Super Cup in Trieste had also come a surprising tie-break loss to Numia Vero Volley Milan.

Decisive in particular was the first set, with Ekaterina Antropova and her teammates flying out to a 20-23 lead before being caught up and beat 31-29. The following partials were also very tight, with the usual Isabelle Haak (20 points) and Gabi (22) making the difference, supported by Zhu Ting (13) under the direction of Joanna Wolosz. Scandicci was not satisfied with Antropova’s 16 points and Avery Skinner’s 17, with Caterina Bosetti and Camilla Weitzel sharing 8.

The match was played at the’Inalpi Arena in Turin (the same one that hosts the Atp Finals in tennis) in front of 12,853, a new historic record for Italian women’s club volleyball, to the delight of league president Mauro Fabris: “What we witnessed at the Inalpi Arena is not just a sporting event, it’s a turning point for the entire movement. Bringing more than 25,000 people in two days to one of Italy’s excellent venues is an unprecedented achievement that rewards our willingness to dare, responsibly, proof that our Serie A can and must grow further”.

“Today’s figure, with 12,853 spectators, marks an all-time record for the Women’s Volleyball League: a step, not definitive, that confirms the goodness of the League’s choices in focusing on iconic, challenging stages, which, however, rewarded us with the splendid images of this weekend”, concluded Fabris.

From next weekend it will be back on the court for the A1 series, with Conegliano determined to finish ahead of everyone in the regular season thus securing the home court advantage in all playoffs.
