As expected. Jannik Sinner got rid, easily, of Luciano Darderi and thus won the pass to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. The South Tyrolean played a near-perfect match, displaying a solid game and also giving several absolute star magic. Applause to Luciano Darderi, who, by the way, reached the round of 16 in Melbourne and, in the third set, did everything he could to extend the match.

Sinner and Alcaraz may only meet in the final at the Australian Open

Jannik Sinner immediately sets the record straight, approaching the match as best he can. Luciano Darderi tries to be aggressive right away, in an attempt to limit the power from the back court of the South Tyrolean. After a good first game, complete with break points (not exploited), Luciano Darderi begins to struggle. Jannik Sinner takes the stage and, in 27′ of play, easily takes home the first set with a peremptory 6-1 that confirms the superiority of the current number 2 in the world.

In the second set Luciano Darderi also tries to change pace and come up with something to get into the match but Jannik Sinner does not seem in the mood for gifts. The first break soon arrived. On 3-2 in favor of the Altotesino, a masterful play by the number 2 on the scoreboard (short ball) that leaves his opponent stunned. Jannik Sinner’s serve is devastating. In 35′ of play, 6-3 for the’former world No. 1. In the third set, at 4-4, Jannik Sinner cancels four break points. It goes to the tie-break (Luciano Darderi saves two match points). The defending champion goes down 0-2 but then puts up seven points in a row that are worth the victory.

In short, it was all easy for Jannik Sinner, who thus grabbed the pass to the quarterfinals. Compared to the previous match, where he had to cope with adverse weather conditions, Jannik Sinner also dominated physically, certifying his excellent form.

The mission to reach the quarterfinals was to win the quarterfinals.

The mission to reach the very final in Melbourne and try to take home the third Australian Open in a row is still feasible. It is worth mentioning that, in the magnificent eight still in the running, there is also Lorenzo Musetti who will face Nole Djokovic for a place in the semifinals.
