"The fatal coincidence" the Sky Sports documentary 60 years after the Bremen air tragedy. Trailer and schedule

Sky Sport

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Bremen air tragedy, in which the entire Italian national swimming team lost its life, with coach Paolo Costoli and journalist Nico Sapio, Sky Sport presents the new original production “La fatale coincidenza. Blue swimming in the sky of Bremen ’66.”

The documentary, airing on Sky and streaming on NOW, edited by Silvia Vallini and Riccardo Re, with direction and post-production by Flavio Chioda, is the story of one of the greatest disasters of our sport, dubbed “the Superga of swimming,” which swept away an entire generation of very young blue swimming champions.

“The Fatal Coincidence” reconstructs those tragic events through testimonies, current and archival images and wants to give light back to the young athletes involved, their stories, their dreams interrupted while they were on their way to represent Italy in one of the most important international meets of the time. A national team that was blossoming and that left an immense void, even in the years to come; a tragedy that shocked the country but was forgotten for years, far from the pools.
