Cagliari scrambles Verona with a goleada
Cagliari overwhelms Verona in Saturday’s third advance of the 23rd day of Serie A: at the Unipol Domus, the Sardinians led by Pisacane overcome the Gialloblu 4-0, centering their third consecutive victory and flying to +10 on the relegation zone. After a balanced first 20 minutes, Cagliari took the field, while Verona lost Gagliardini to injury, in came newly acquired Lovric. At 36′ the Sardinians unlocked the result with Mazzitelli, scoring at the end of a choral action of the hosts started by Palestra and finished with a heel by Obert. Before the end of the first half came the very heavy goal of 2-0 by Kilicsoy, who scored a splendid half-timer on an assist from Esposito.
In the second half, it rained on Verona: Sarr was sent off at 52′ for double yellow card. Cagliari wisely administers the result and in the end of the match finally closes the accounts against a defenseless opponent: Sulemana at 84’84’ scores after Perilli’s short clearance; Idrissi makes poker at 90′ on Zappa’s cross.
The Cagliari team is now on the top of the table.
Cagliari rises to 28 points and already feels the air of salvation, while Verona will reflect in the coming hours whether to give a steering in the bench to provoke a reaction from the team, which appeared in great difficulty in Sardinia.
Verona sporting director Sean Sogliano analyzed the situation this way:“It does not seem right to me to send the coach to talk after this bad defeat. It was a strange game, conditioned also by episodes, and after a good start we did not react. It is a very difficult moment, which I do not like because there is something wrong. I come to speak because there is no point in coming to the coach or the players. I am not happy and I am very angry”.
“We have been struggling for years. 3 years ago we saved ourselves in a playoff, two years ago in the penultimate and last year in the last. It is a problematic ranking because the others are scoring points, we have to think and show that we are able to react. Then there is also the market, which is maybe in some players’ heads and not doing well. I am sorry not to give you news now, but it is time to react and not to talk”.
