Already grappling with several absences in the three-quarter department, just a few days before the start of the Six Nations Italy has to record another very heavy forfeit, that of Edoardo Todaro. The Federugby has in fact confirmed that the winger under contract with the Northampton Saints, the English Premiership club with which he had brilliantly come to the fore in the first part of this season, has suffered a cruciate ligament injury that will force him to a long stop and, therefore, to skip the annual review that pits the best European national teams against each other.

“During the training camp in Verona, Edoardo Todaro suffered a knee injury. The instrumental examinations carried out showed an injury of the right anterior cruciate ligament – reads the note released Saturday by the medical staff of the men’s national team, through the channels of Federugby -. The player will return to his home club where he will continue the path of recovery and rehabilitation followed by the medical staff of Northampton in synergy with that of the National team”.

Todaro&#8217s name thus joins those of other important players already certain to be unable to be there for the 2026 Six Nations debut, a list that includes utility backs Tommaso Allan and Ange Capuozzo, hooker Gianmarco Lucchesi, third lines Sebastian Negri and Ross Vintcent, and winger/extender Jacopo Trulla. Class of 2006, Todaro was expected to play his first Six Nations after earning his place among coach Gonzalo Quesada’s call-ups after some spectacular performances with the Saints jersey.

The youngster was expected to play in the first Six Nations.

Brought up first in AS Rugby Milano and then CUS Milano, Todaro has lived in England since the age of 14 and in 2021 was signed by the Northampton Saints, with whom he completed the youth ranks and made his debut this season in the top English rugby league, the Premiership, immediately scoring two tries in the 33-33 win over the Exeter Chiefs.

Todaro had been one of the protagonists throughout the first part of the season, scoring goal after goal with Northampton and making Italian fans dream, who had been relying on him to make them forget the already well-known absence of Ange Capuozzo. Fate, however, turned against the young Azzurri, to whom all the insiders, transversamltly, wished the quickest possible return.
