Djokovic’s start with a bang as he took the serve away from Alcaraz as early as the fourth game: the Serb was much more aggressive than the Spaniard and at the third useful opportunity he hit the jackpot, going up 3-1. Nole confirmed the break with a pair of aces and repeated it in the eighth game, closing the first partial 6-2. Immediately Carlitos’ reaction in the second set: in the third game the Spaniard gets the break thanks to a Djokovic volley error and he repeated it in the seventh game, before taking the second partial with the same score: 6-2.

Even in the third partial the balance is broken early and once again in favor of the world number one: Alcaraz breaks Djokovic’s serve in the fifth game and confirms the break lead (4-2). In the ninth game, the fourth seed cancels four set points for Carlos but the fifth is the good one for the Murcian who goes ahead by a set. The fourth set is the most balanced but Alcaraz places the decisive stretch in the final moment winning the last two games.

Thanks to this success Alcaraz won his seventh career Grand Slam title, joining champions of the caliber of Mats Wilander and John McEnroe. For Djokovic, however, it was his first defeat in the final in Melbourne where he boasted an incredible record of 10 wins out of 10.

Alcaraz, at 22 years and 272 days, is the youngest player in history to have completed the Career Grand Slam. In addition, he is the ninth all-time player to do so, the fourth in the new millennium after Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
