Carlos Alcaraz has won the Australian Open 2026, a triumph that for the Spanish outfielder entails completing the Career Grand Slam. With a record: he is the youngest person of all time to achieve it. In the minutes immediately following the 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 snatched in three solid hours of play from Novak Djokovic, the very Serbian had taken his hat off to his great opponent. In the meantime, however, congratulations also came from the Melbourne hero&#8217s quintessential rival: that is, of course, Jannik Sinner, whose good relations with his colleague are a known fact.

While Jannik Sinner prepares to play the Australian Open semifinals Juan Carlos Ferrero opens up about his coaching future.
He just separated from Carlos Alcaraz, at the end of 2025.
When asked about the possibility of collaborating with the Italian, the Spaniard’s former coach blurted out.
"Would I coach Sinner? I don’t know at the moment. Jannik is a great player and, together with Carlos, he is contending for everything".
"I don’t exclude anything: if I had the opportunity, considering also that my path with Carlos is finished, I should think about it seriously".
In an interview with El Larguero, Ferrero explained that he has received some proposals, but has not yet found the motivation to re-enter the circuit.
"After the experience with Carlos it is difficult to accept offers from other players. Right now I am quiet and I have turned them down".
"I don’t know when I’ll be back, but I’ll definitely be back: tennis is my life and I won’t abandon it".
The professional separation from Alcaraz, which occurred earlier in the year due to contractual differences, had been announced by the world number one himself.
"It is very difficult for me to write this post… After more than seven years, Juanki and I have decided to end our journey together".
"Thank you for turning my childhood dreams into reality. We started this journey when I was just a child".
"I have enjoyed every step with you. We have reached the summit, and if our sports paths should diverge, it will have to be right from there".

“Congratulations, Carlos Alcaraz!” indeed, Sinner wrote in a post published on the Instagram Stories of his official profile. The talent from San Candido celebrated his friend-rival by relaunching the content with which the ATP had recalled the Spaniard’s successes in Grand Slam tournaments: before the Australian Open 2026 it is the US Open 2022 and 2025, Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024 and Roland Garros 2024 and 2025. The’absence of exploits in Melbourne until this year was in part due to the fact that the first major tournament of the year had gone to the’Alto Adige in both 2024 and 2025.

Already Djokovic himself, as mentioned, was quick to congratulate Alcaraz immediately after his defeat in the Australian Open final. “First of all congratulations to Carlos, you did an extraordinary tournament – Nole said during the award ceremony -What you are achieving is historic, legendary. I wish you the best for the future of your career. You are very young, like me. We will see each other again many times”. The Serb had, moreover, won the last act of the prestigious Melbourne tournament after defeating Sinner himself in the semifinals.

And Sinner was somewhat imitated on social media by Paolo Bertolucci, who in turn was admired not only by Alcaraz’s success at the Australian Open but by his streak. “22 years old, 7 Slams!” reads a post in which Carlos Alcaraz is tagged and celebrated by seven emoji depicting clapping hands.

Remember that even before the Australian Open, Sinner and Alcaraz got to face each other in a friendly match in Seoul on Jan. 10. “We finished our season playing against each other, now we start 2026 together again. You deserve the best, I wish the best to you and your team” said the’blue to his colleague, who on that occasion defeated him.
