Almost a month after Xabi Alonso&#8217s exoneration from Real Madrid, talk continues in Spain about the Spanish coach&#8217s complicated experience on the Blancos bench. Hired in the summer to pick up Carlo Ancelotti’s legacy, Xabi Alonso had problems with some players and after 7 months Florentino Perez decided to exonerate him.

Álvaro Benito, who wore the Real Madrid jersey between 1995 and 1997 and between 1998 and 2001, to Cadena SER was particularly harsh commenting on Xabi Alonso’s epilogue: “It is very difficult to accept that Xabi Alonso arrives and after three months we come to the conclusion that this team cannot be coached. It is absurd. It must be the only team in the world, in any sport, where a coach comes and you can”t coach it.

“Carlo Ancelotti had it very clear: because he knew they would not run, he put two lines of four in a medium-low block and waited to see what he could get up front thanks to the quality of his strikers– continued Álvaro Benito -If you don’t want to play like in Ancelotti’s era and you want to take another path, if you want to be a proactive team like all the winning teams of today, you have to take an opposite path to what is being done”.

“You have to come in and demand that Vinicius run, that everybody run, and that everybody work within a collective idea of great sacrifice. You may have a few injuries during the year, but the team has to have a clearly distinguishable’footprint. You need a medium- and long-term idea, you need to make consistent purchases, and you need the coach to really be able to coach” concluded the’former Real Madrid.

Real Madrid decided to entrust the bench to Alvaro Arbeloa after the’exoneration of Xabi Alonso but the results, so far, are still mixed. Many fans have not liked the former coach&#8217s departure and in recent matches have externalized it with whistles and chants against the club&#8217s management.

For the future of Xabi Alonso the most concrete option at the moment seems to be Liverpool: the club invested so much last summer in the market but the results are not up to the quality of the squad. The club is pondering the future of Arne Slot and a farewell at the end of the season is possible: Xabi Alonso is the main candidate to replace him.
