Rana Verona, Italy Cup triumph: Itas Trentino crushed 3-0

Triumph in the Italian Cup for Rana Verona. The Venetian team won the tricolor rosette for the first time, imposing itself 3-0 in a once again sold-out Unipol Arena in every order of seats: overwhelming Itas Trentino with a net 3-0. It’s been a Final Four to be applauded for Mozic and his teammates: after the 3-0 success against Perugia in the semifinals, the same result against the reigning Italian champions who still fought until the last ball despite several absences in place four, starting with that of Alessandro Michieletto.

The MVP of the Final Four was Micah Christenson, director and mastermind of Rana Verona: for the U.S. setter, it is a return to success in the Italian Cup almost ten years after his first triumph.

“I’ve wanted to play in Italy since I was born and in my fifth year with Verona I won a trophy – commented captain Mozic – The team never gave up, I didn’t expect to win both games 3-0: however, we have to think ahead and we still have Supercoppa and the final of the championship, with the Play Offs, waiting for us. Trento was not to be underestimated even with Michieletto absent and Lavia convalescent; we, for our part, were a bit emotional but Christenson as a great champion was serene, even in the difficult moments of the second set”.

In a different mood of course Riccardo Sbertoli, captain of the’Itas Trentino): “Verona came with physique, power and very good volleyball, we had the will to win too but they were stronger. In emergency we behaved as a real team, we tried with the attitude we had yesterday but the opponent put a lot of pressure on us”.
