Borussia Dortmund wants an answer from Schlotterbeck

The contract renewal negotiations between Nico Schlotterbeck and Borussia Dortmund have slowed down, and the club is pressing the player to clarify his future as soon as possible. The BVB defender’s contract expires in 2027, and interest in him is known from Bayern Munich, several English clubs and Real Madrid.
The lack of clarity in recent weeks does not please the Dortmund club, which is waiting for a response from the player: in case of failure to extend his contract, a summer farewell is virtually certain so as not to lose him for free in 2027.
Sports director Sebastian Kehl has spoken clearly: “I am an advocate of clarity in all areas and in all matters, Nico knows that we want a decision as quickly as possible” are the clear words of the BVB executive. The club would be ready to offer its player a €14 million per season salary, with a €60 million termination clause that could be triggered from 2027.
A major offer but so far Schlotterbeck has remained very vague, stating only that he “will make a key decision before the summer”. According to rumors, the player is trying to buy time, perhaps waiting for a big offer from a top European club.
The 26-year-old defender is a key part of Kovac’s defense, both for his technical qualities and for his charisma and clout in the locker room, and replacing him would not be easy. Real Madrid, which is looking to rejuvenate the team, has been persistently approached about the player in recent weeks, and could soon come forward with an official offer. The Blancos are looking for a successor to Antonio Rudiger, who will leave Madrid at the end of the season.
