“To have started 2026 with the title in Hobart was amazing. I had gone there to try to play as many matches as possible, and I ended up playing seven of them, starting from the qualifiers” added the world number 57 who will return to the court on Wednesday for a place in the quarterfinals.

“This week is a bit special for us: everyone is focused on the Winter Olympics where our athletes are doing very well. We also have to do our best: I will try to go as far as possible here” concluded Cocciaretto.

No day, however, for Jasmine Paolini. L’Azzurra, number 6 in the seeding and eight in the WTA ranking, succumbed in two sets to Greek Maria Sakkari, number 52 in the world rankings, who came out on top with a final score of 6-4 6-2 after one’hour and twenty-three minutes of play.
