Premier League 2025-2026: Tottenham-Newcastle, the likely lineups

At 8:30 p.m. the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host a very delicate match for the balance of the English league, that between Tottenham and Newcastle. Both come to this clash as big disappointments in the league, trapped in a results crisis that makes the points at stake heavy.
For Tottenham, the performances shown in the Champions League cannot mask the dire situation in the Premier League. Thomas Frank’s team has fallen to 15th place, just six points behind the relegation zone, seeing the possible dream of entering Europe next year through the league now faded. Newcastle’s situation is no better, despite qualifying for the Champions League playoff (where they will face Qarabag). The Magpies are still struggling to find continuity in the league and tonight’s match represents a crucial turning point.
The list of absentees at Tottenham is very long and forces Thomas Frank to make almost forced choices, to which is also added the disqualification of captain Romero, who was sent off in the last round against Manchester United. With Udogie still out with muscle problems and stars Maddison and Kulusevski stuck in the pits, Spurs will rely on the talented Xavi Simons to try to turn on the light in the three-quarter. In attack, all the weight will be on the shoulders of Solanke, who will be called upon to drag a decimated but determined team back up in front of its home crowd.
Newcastle also does not arrive at its best and has to deal with some heavy absences. The first concerns the defensive department, where leader Fabian Schär will be missing. Eddie Howe hopes to recover at the last minute Anthony Gordon, but in case of a forfeit the trident with Elanga Barnes and Woltemade is ready. The keys to the midfield will be in the hands of Bruno Guimaraes, the real engine of the Magpies, who will be tasked with dictating the tempo and inspiring the insertions of his teammates. Despite the many unavailable players, the goal is to regain the solidity that has been lacking in recent outings.
