The recent injury to Marc-André ter Stegen has sparked a series of rumors about Manuel Neuer’s possible return to the German national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico. Not a few fans and pundits are pushing for a rethink of the 2014 world champion, who left the national team in 2024.

The 39-year-old goalkeeper after the German Cup match against Leipzig, however, spoke clearly, closing to any possibility: “Bayern president Hainer hopes for my return? I am pleased with his words, but he in particular knows my decision. Yes, my decision is irrevocable”.

Neuer, who has played 124 games with Germany, said goodbye to the national team after the 2024 European Championship and has no plans to step back: “I am completely focused on the club”.
