A request “out of the’ordinary” that is proving a resounding success. Sophia Kirkby stars. The 24-year-old American tobogganist is looking for company on Valentine’s Day. Through her social profiles she let it be known that she is single, free of commitments (no competitions) and eager to spend the Lovers’ Day together with someone, not necessarily a colleague but, why not, even a fan of hers.

A “request” that has sparked her followers and beyond. More than 600 messages have been received by the American tobogganist. So many have offered to be by her side on Valentine’s Day. Being in Cortina, with no competition to be held and, therefore, free from all points of view, the American also wants to give space to feelings and, who knows, maybe find love right in Italy.

On her social profile she also mentioned Jake Pates, an American snowboarder who declared himself “free” for February 14. The fellow sledder responded to Jake Pates, “booking him” for Valentine’s Day evening. Sophia Kirkby is not the first to embark on this kind of initiative. At PyeongChang 2018, outfielder Lindsey Vonn had asked her fans if there was anyone willing to spend Valentine’s Day.

Sophia Kirkby has won three medals at the World Championships (silver in the team event at Altenberg 2024, two bronzes in the doubles at Winterberg 2022 and Altenberg 2024). At Milan Cortina 2026 she took part in the women’s doubles event, a first at the Olympics, together with Chevonne Forgan.

Free of commitments, she now hopes to experience a magical Valentine’s Day. It will not be easy to choose, as the list of suitors is so long. New communications are expected, obviously through her social profiles (on Instagram she is followed by more than 30,000 followers).
